I would really like some feedback from everyone on this. This totally fits with a bible class series our church is in right now on Prayer. What do you think about a set of parents who would forgo medical care to pray in faith for God's intervention with their daughter's health?

What a great discussion question. First of all, the state's got no case on this. Neglect is about the best they're going to get in this case. Unless their actions actually caused her to die, then there is no case. That is all legally speaking.

Now, logically speaking, I can't help but deride this decision process. If they had really been wanting to cure this girl by prayer then they should have also been up at the church having the elders anoint her with oil (personally speaking, I believe that actually might have done more good). The Bible does not advise against medical care, and indeed we can argue successfully that it encourages it. (Take a little wine for your stomach's sake, anyone?)

But no, the state isn't going to get anywhere on this unless there is a very unprincipled judge to let it in court.

One way to look at things is that the medical cure is the answer to the prayer. I think cures to things like polio and many of the horrible diseases that _used_ to plague us are gifts from God and answers to the prayers of the suffering.
