Also, there are some disturbing rumors that Manny purposely left his bat on his shoulder & struck out in a critical situation vs. Mariano Rivera earlier this month. I remember watching that at bat & being totally amazed that Manny didn't swing. And now it makes total sense.
The Red Sox can tolerate Manny being clownish & incompetent in left field -- clearly we have already stomached it for this long. But if he goes into pouty & surly Manny mode, it won't be much longer for him in Boston. He will go the way of Nomar.

Just saw that play on Sportscenter, and it has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen, baseball-wise. Part of it is just because it was Manny.
I also remember that at-bat. What was it, 3 straight strikes with the bases loaded? You can't put yourself above the team, especially in that situation, Red Sox v. Yankees.
Apparently Epstein's really not a fan of Manny, but the club is saying that the rumors about him purposely striking out are just that: rumors. History has shown him watching strikes go by before, and as we know, he's well known for being picky at the plate. Who knows, I think the media is playing this up because every other club resents Manny for being Manny, and we all love drama.
